A major work . The two volume Medallic Washington is a complete revision of William Spohn Baker’s Medallic Portraits of Washington and covers the medals of George Washington through the bicentennial of his inauguration. The two volumes combine for 830 pages. There are 1148 listings each illustrated with full color photographs of both the obverse and reverse and considerable background and historical text. Musante's the new numbering system will set a new standard for the classification and reference of Washington medals going forward.
In the course of preparing these volumes, the author had the opportunity to photograph the Washington medals in the Appleton collection at the Massachusetts Historical Society, the Baker collection at the Pennsylvania Historical Society, the Snowden collection at the Smithsonian Institute, the gold Washington Before Boston medal at the Boston Public Library as well as a number of significant private collections. Photography has also been provided by the American Numismatic Society, Yale University, Stack’s-Bowers and Heritage.
The two volumes are hard bound with deep blue cloth covers with photographs of the Washington Before Boston and the Declaration of Independence medals inset on the front boards.
