A Register of Seated Half Dollar Varieties Volume I -- San Francisco Branch Mint

This Register documents the Liberty Seated Half Dollar die marriages of obverse, reverse, and collar dies currently known. It is commonly misunderstood by many collectors and dealers that the Liberty Seated denominations have been studied as extensively as the older copper and bust series, where the discovery of new die marriages is rare. This is far from reality. The older copper and bust seies have been extensively collected and exhaustively studied for many decades. The Liberty Seated series are far behind in that respect and have a lot of catching up to do. With his multi-volume work, Bill Bugert is catching up at least the Seated Liberty Half Dollar series.

This Register does not include everything everyone wants to know about the San Francisco Branch Mint Liberty Seated Half Dollars. Specifically, little information is included on condition census and there is no pricing information. Alternatively, Bugert has included estimated rarity ratings. The detailed die marriage data and accompanying photographs (almost 1400) will allow the collector of this series to attribute die marriages, identify potentially new die marriages, and help detect counterfeits. Finally, the last few pages include a checklist of S-Mint die marriages for the collector working on a full die marriage collection.
